There are numerous types of yeast infections which affect the human skin in the form of a rash, including Candidiasis, which is the most common type. Yeast infections are seen mostly in women; however infants and men can sometimes be affected as well. Some of the most common symptoms of yeast infections experienced by women include a discharge from the vagina, white in color and causes irritation and sometimes burning upon urinating. Sometimes pain can be associated with yeast infections when having sexual intercourse.
While there is a certain type of fungi which is responsible for causing a yeast rash, it lives inside and on our bodies most of the time, only occasionally causing an infection which then leads to irritation, burning, etc. With infants, this type of rash can present multiple ways, including the thrush or oral candidiasis. This usually appears as thick white patches on the tongue and palate. Under the layer of white patches, the tongue may be red and bleed if they are removed with something like a cotton swab. One of the most important things is to stay hydrated when you have this rash, because of the area which is affected by it.
There is also the diaper rash, which can affect many infants, but is not considered to be a very serious yeast rash. It can usually be treated with products purchased over-the-counter at a drugstore, such as Nilstat or Mycostatin. Antifungal creams have also been known to effectively reduce the symptoms of diaper rash, such as the redness, itching, and irritation that is commonly associated with it. If the rash spreads to other parts of the body or if symptoms such as fever or nausea begin to appear, then it is best to seek professional medical attention as soon as possible.
A yeast rash is most likely to form in warmer, most areas of the body. This includes the underarms as well as the lower abdomen. Adults with dentures commonly develop problems with yeast infections if they are not cleaned regularly or properly. There are many different ways to treat these type of infections, depending on where on the body they are, the age of the person, and what initially caused the reaction. Most of the time those who have a yeast rash will be able to use medication purchased from a drugstore to treat it, however other cases may be more severe and require prescription-strength medications. Taking probiotics such as bifidus and acidopholous are effective ways to keep the intestinal flora at the right level and counteract the effects of antibiotics.
